Fat Pixel Blog

Welcome (back)!

Welcome everyone, or for those who know me: welcome back!

This is my first blog post on my Fat Pixel Dev blog. Way back, from late 90's until the early 2000's I wrote quite a bit online. And for years I have been thinking about getting back into writing again.

I'm building this blog in public. I got Eleventy running, changed a bit of CSS and off we go. It would mean a lot to me if you follow along!

What I'll write about

Jump to section titled: What I'll write about

I think most posts will be about (front-end) webdevelopment and internet stuff. That's my trade, and after almost 30 years in the business of building websites, it still fascinates me and I'm still learing every day. For about 3 years I actually have been keeping track of little ideas for small articles I can write about. Just jotting the subject in a notion board, maybe accompanying it with a link or code snippet. So I'm thinking about "backloading" this blog with those articles.

And probably I'll write some bits about (web)design, life, nerdy stuff, music, movies maybe? I'll figure it out as I go!

Why I'm writing

Jump to section titled: Why I'm writing

I'm writing because I like to share about stuff that interests me and matters to me. Work-wise, I like to share my knowledge. As a developer you solve a lot of problems and puzzles during the day. And if I can help anyone by sharing something I solved myself: mission complete.

Furthermore, I believe that it's a good thing that the tech-community should not be reliant on social media. Big-tech can not and should not own our content. I like privacy, open-source, RSS and decentralisation. So we (developers) should run our own blogs, RSS feeds and share knowledge amongs ourselves.

Some disclaimers

As you probably noticed, I'm not a native speaker of the English language. I'm trying my very best, and it's probably good practice to write some articles English, and not just speak it conversationally.

Furthermore, as I said: I'm building this blog in public. Right now it's far from how I would like it to look. But alas, content first, design later!
